Gallicantu Bookcraft
Book Repair and Custom Leather/Cloth Binding
Lebanon, Indiana

Hello and thank you for visiting Gallicantu Bookcraft. You may be wondering what does "Gallicantu" mean and how do you pronounce it? It's pronounced gal-li-CON-too and is Latin for "the song of the Rooster."

I am a professional librarian, having received my Master of Library Science degree from Indiana University in 1996. Even before starting graduate school, I volunteered at a local public library and repaired books doing simple tip-ins, glue-ups, tear repairs and the like. During and after my graduate studies, I took several classes and workshops dealing with the history, anatomy of books, repair, conservation and preservation. Almost every single job, be it at a University, the American Legion National Headquarters, or a religious organization, I found myself repairing/restoring books and other print items. I started on the road to entrepreneurial bookcrafter and conservationist first by repairing books and documents of family and friends. Then word of mouth spread to others. I continue to educate myself by reading restoration books and other publications. I am able to do anything from simple repair and bookcloth binding to full leather binding (including leather tooling).

A book's primary function is to relay knowledge or entertainment... its second is to look good.

Don't judge a book by its cover, judge the binder!
